Actress, Melonie Diaz @ Grrrl :) :) :)

We are excited to announce, actress Melonie Diaz will be @ Grrrl Fest from 1-2:30 pm in the Silent Barn Garden.
She will be answering any acting questions you may have.
If you would like to meet with Melonie, sign up on the list on the day of the event. Come prepared with some questions and be aware that each meeting will be approximately 15 minutes.

Read Melonie's bio for more info:

An immensely talented actress, Melonie Diaz has captivated audiences with her on-screen presence in thought-provoking roles across both independent and studio films.

Most recently, Diaz was seen in The Weinstein Company’s biography drama Fruitvale Station, based on the true story of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old who was fatally shot by BART Police in the morning hours of New Year's Day 2009. Diaz’s breakout performance in the role of “Sophina” earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Female. The film, which debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize as well as the Audience Award, went on to receive much critical acclaim following its release.

Next up, Diaz will star in Ryan Piers Williams’ X/Y which explores the difficulties of love and lust amidst the progressive New York City life. Diaz joins a notable cast including America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn and Common among others. The film is set to premiere at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival this month. In addition, the actress recently completed production on Thomas McCarthy’s fantasy drama, The Cobbler, where she stars alongside Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Dustin Hoffman and Ellen Barkin.

Diaz will soon be seen in the HBO drama series project, Laughs Unlimited, created by Oren Moverman and Anthony Swofford.  It centers on Army Reserve medic Billie Crown (Diaz) who, after fifteen months as a combat medic in Afghanistan, discovers that “real life” is just as perilous as war.

In 2012, Diaz starred in Rob Margolies’ comedy She Wants Me opposite Josh Gad and Hilary Duff, as well as Save The Date opposite Lizzy Caplan and Allison Brie. She also joined Lena Dunham and Arielle Kebbel in Daniel Schechter’s Supporting Characters that same year. In 2006, Diaz was nominated for her first Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female for her role in Dito Montiel’s A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. She starred opposite Robert Downey Jr., Shia LaBeouf, Channing Tatum and Rosario Dawson in the American drama based on a 2001 memoir by Dito Monteil describing his youth in Astoria, New York.

Diaz’s other film credits include the 2008 comedy musical Hamlet 2 opposite Steve Coogan and Catherine Keener; Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind; the biographical drama film Lords of Dogtown directed by Catherine Hardwicke; and Peter Sollett’s Raising Victor Vargas.

Beyond film, the actress was recently seen in a guest starring role on the third season of HBO’s award-winning series Girls, which aired in January, 2014. She has also appeared in a number of hit series including USA’s CSI: Miami, TNT’s crime drama Rizzoli & Isles, FX’s Nip/Tuck, the CBS drama Person of Interest and Law & Order among many others.

Originally from New York City, Diaz was raised on the Lower East Side. She studied acting at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, and later completed a degree in Film Production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Currently, Diaz resides in New York City.
